Reporting to the VP, Product Management—Strategic Sourcing, the Technical Product Manager is responsible for defining market requirements and packaging the features into product releases. The Technical Product Manager has an extensive technical background and project management experience. The Technical Product Manager fully understands the market and his tactical focus makes him the ultimate surrogate user/expert when interacting with development leads, product architects, and key customers. These qualities are key to successfully carry out technical product management responsibilities such as gathering existing and potential customer requirements (including recent sales results), managing Agile product backlogs and monitoring the implementation of each product project.

Product Vision and Strategy:

  • Recognise market problems we are aiming to solve with our solutions;
  • Communicate the product vision and strategy to the development team;
  • Define features and requirements in line with the product vision and responding to customers’ needs;
  • Contribute to “new feature” business briefs which are aligned to the business plan;
  • Conduct technical evaluations during build or buy evaluations;
  • Provide rough work estimates needed to evaluate strategic options;
  • Ensure the backlog prioritizes features which result in the most ROI for the organization;
  • Develop product features and appraise new ideas for market viability.

Market Research and Customer Relations:

  • Understands customers’ needs, the market and competitive landscape as well as “user flows” for the product;
  • Acts as the customer’s voice when interacting with the development team, utilizing market trends and personas to define user stories;
  • Proactively search emerging technical leads, feeding future product development that would answer customer needs;
  • Analyze the competitive landscape.

Cross-functional relations:

  • Be the engineering go-to-resource, acting as the point of contact/facilitator between the development team and other teams;
  • Research feedback from users all along development process to maintain continuous improvement into future iterations of the products;
  • Collaborate with support and sales to evaluate feedback and calls results;
  • Draft documents such as user stories and use scenarios, product requirements; metrics, etc.

Communication and Development coordination:

  • Build, manage and communicate the detailed product roadmap and backlog;
  • Define the scope of next releases;
  • Maintain a status dashboard for specific products, tracking and reporting team progress and KPIs;
  • Perform analyzes, ensuring requirements are ready to be worked on (Sprint ready), setting Sprint objectives, accepting Sprints and then leading Sprint review meetings;
  • Contribute to the evaluation of effort needed to successfully deliver the required features;
  • Continue professional and technical education, attending workshops, seminars, etc.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology / Software Development or any combination of training and equivalent experience;
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a similar position.

    • Ability to translate business needs into technological solutions;
    • Good understanding of business processes;
    • Communication skills, good listening skills;
    • Excellent writing skills;
    • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships;
    • Time and priority management;
    • Excellent spoken and written English and ability to understand and speak French;
    • Important: Experience in Scrum (user story) analysis.
  • Assets:
    • Experience collaborating on a product with several Scrum teams;
    • Knowledge in the field of strategic sourcing.
